extracurricular activities
In my time here at Lindsay senior high school I have not done many extracurricular activities like clubs and other things like that but I have participated in school sports like football and track and field. I have also spent a week as a counselor at scicon taking care of 6th graders as they learn about nature, going on trails with the kids and helping them with anything they needed. One of the last extracurricular activities I did was coach 8, 9, and 10 year old's on my little brothers pop warner team the Lindsay white cardinals. At first I was just going to my little brothers practices to help him progress as a player but the head coach asked me if i'd like to become an assistant coach and I kindly accepted his offer. We had a successful season going 8-1 on and making it all the way to the semi-finals where we lost to earlimart, but the progression the players made meant more than any championship.
track and field
While here at Lindsay high school I have done varsity track and field for 3 years now. As a freshman I did not do the sport because I had no idea such a sport existed and it really didn't sound interesting to me. Like throwing a disk and a metal ball didn't appeal to me, but in my sophomore year I decided to give it a try just for the fun of it. Turns out I was really good at it. Winning the ESL championship in the discus throw my for frosh/soph. Since then I am ranked number two in the league for discus and number 4 in the shot put and i'm still chasing that ESL title and hopeful a chance at a valley title. I really want to continue to do track and field in college following in the foot steps of one of my favorite throwers Adam Damadzic who is an All American discus thrower at my favorite college TCU.
jv and varsity football
Here at Lindsay high school I have played football three out of the four years I have attended this school. My freshman year was actually my first year of organized football which in my younger years I did not get to play. My freshman year was not a successful season in my standards because I did not play much. It was more of a stand in the back of the line and learn from who's ahead of you, and I did. Cause in my sophomore campaign I was asked to move up to varsity which was a huge honor at the time but me not having played on JV I didn't think I was ready to be up there. I decided to stay down on JV and it was probably one of the best decisions I have made because that year was probably one of the best seasons and most fun I have ever had playing football. We went undefeated in league and beat strathmore in the final seconds 14 to 7. My junior year I played varsity football but did get to see the field as I was plagued by injury with two concussions ended my junior season. Me worried about my well being I made a hard decision and decided to not play my senior year. It was a hard decision for me as football is a passion but I knew it was the right choice.
coaching
I have coached pop warner football for 2 years now. At first i was just I was just going to my little brothers practices to help him improve on his techniques and make him a better football player. The head coach saw I had some knowledge of the game and asked me if i would like to come in and help with the kids. Seeing all the kids develop and and grow as football players was a great feeling and actually winning games was an even greater feeling as the team went 8-1 that season. Even though the kids lost in the semi-finals the most important part was seeing the kids have fun and watching them grow getting ready for the next level.
